Evaluation of antidepressant activity of ethanolic extract of Mimosa pudica in swiss albino mice

Introduction: Depression is a widely prevalent form of mental illnesses worldwide. It commonly associated with sad mood, loss interest or pleasure, feelings guilt low self-worth, disturbed sleep appetite, and energy. Mimosa pudica has many medicinal properties, are used in traditional medicine the treatment various medical conditions. This study was conducted to better understand antidepressant activity pudica. Objective: To evaluate potential Ethanolic Extract (EEMP) leaves on depression Swiss Albino mice. Materials Methods: albino mice either sex weighing 20-30g were used. Sixty divided into two arms. Each arm further five groups (n=6). Drugs given orally once daily, for ten days. Group 1 Control group received saline. 2 standard drug – Imipramine (15mg/kg). 3 EEMP (100mg/kg). 4 (200mg/kg). 5 (400mg/kg). Antidepressant evaluated by submitting Forced Swim Test (FST) Tail Suspension (TST) first tenth day. Results: The showed significant reduction immobility time both when compared control group. Conclusion: suggests that anti-depressant can be considered use therapy after testing. Keywords: Antidepressant, swim test, pudica, suspension test.
